Ending A Life: Locals Look To Start Conversations About Death

November 1st, 2019 — 8:56am

Research suggests Nevada’s senior population could triple from 2000 to 2030.

Some call it the silver tsunami. And among the many challenges this aging nation faces is — how to die?

A majority of people say they’d prefer to pass away in the comfort of their own home.

The reality is, most die in a hospital. But some health care providers in the community are working to change this by getting people to talk about the end of life in new ways.

Dr. Manpreet Sran, Attending Physician at our Infinity Hospice Care Las Vegas, NV location, was a guest on a live radio panel discussion. KNPR Nevada Public Radio (88.9 FM).

Dr. Sran is accompanied by Dr. Clevis Parker, Chief Medical Officer of Nathan Adelson Hospice, and Ruth Almen, Clinical Manager of Social Work and Social Services at Cleveland Clinic Luo Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

Infinity Hospice Care Supports Launch of Bipartisan Senate Caucus Focused on Palliative and Coordinated Care

July 31st, 2019 — 2:31pm

Las Vegas, NV – Infinity Hospice Care (IHC) today applauded Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) for her leadership that brought about today’s launch of the Senate Comprehensive Care Caucus. This bipartisan caucus will be the first Senate caucus dedicated to improving access to palliative care for the seriously ill and issues impacting caregivers.

“On behalf of our entire organization, we applaud Senator Rosen’s efforts to improve palliative and coordinated care for individuals with advancing and serious illness” said Brian Bertram, Managing Partner of Nevada Care Connect and Vice President of Infinity Hospice Care.

“The uncertainty of not knowing what to expect and the lack of clarity with a fragmented healthcare system creates anxiety for patients and their families. Prior to enrolling in hospice, many individuals struggle to find coordinated medical care and teams they can trust,” said Bertram. “I am encouraged that these senators recognize the need to do more for seriously ill individuals and I look forward to supporting Senator Rosen in her efforts.”

The goal of the caucus is to raise awareness and improve palliative care policy. Palliative care utilizes interdisciplinary teams of providers who work to optimize quality of life by anticipating, preventing, and treating suffering. Like hospice, palliative care involves addressing the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of a patient and their family. Furthermore, palliative services often reduce stress, lower costs and improve outcomes for patients with serious illnesses.

Hospice Celebrates Life!

September 24th, 2015 — 10:18am

Jackie Casillas, representing Infinity Hospice Care at HealthSouth Dessert Canyon in Las Vegas, talks about the benefits of hospice and how hospice works to affirm life.  When someone is at a critical juncture of their medical care and continued therapies may do more harm than good, hospice helps keep conversations focused on the patient’s goals.

“In talking about what the patient wants, we find that everyone can rally around the best quality-of-life.  When that happens patients and families feel supported, worry less about meeting ‘unrealistic expectations’, and talk about what matters most…Celebrating Life” -Brian Bertram, VP Infinity Hospice Care.
